What is a short code?

A short code is a 5 digit number usually starting with an "8" or a "6" which is supported by the mobile operators and used to generate shared revenue. Commonly used for competitions, voting and paid for content.

What is a shared short code?

A shared short code is used to allow significant savings from using a dedicated short code. A shared 5 digit short code could be used by many clients and it is your unique keyword that seperates your Premium SMS service from others and allows messages to be routed through the mobile networks to your account with us.

What is a keyword?

A keyword is used so that mobile phone users can opt in to your service and the mobile networks are able to identify where to route messages.

How does it all work?

Once you have set up an account and we have configured your short code and keyword with us, you will then receive a username and password to access your account online. You will then be able to start sending and receiving SMS messages. A mobile phone user texts your keyword to your short code. The message passes from the mobile networks and is received by our servers and into your INBOX just like email. These messages can be viewed online, emailed or posted to your own system via HTTP post and XML. Incoming messages can either receive an auto generated response message or await a reply message from you manually. It is ONLY when a successful premium SMS message is sent and received by the mobile phone that revenue is generated.
